Mrs. Starr H. Purdue was elected Treasurer of the NFD & MA in 2007 at the 70th annual convention in Philadelphia, PA. She is preceded by long term treasurers Richard A. Lewis, Sr. and Andrew W. Nix, Jr.

Mrs. Purdue has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. for sixteen of the past nineteen years. Ms. Purdue is a member of the Georgia Society of CPA’s, the American Institute of CPA’s and has served on the Business School Advisory Board for Stetson University for the past ten years. She is state treasurer for the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association, Inc. and is the past chair of the Audit Committee for the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc. She is also a board member and chair of the finance committee of the Development Authority of Bibb County, a board member of Central Georgia Health Systems, Executive Board member of the Better Business Bureau of Central Georgia, Inc., Executive Board member and Treasurer of the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce, Board Member and Treasurer of MedCen Community Health Foundation, a Board member of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia and a charter member of the Macon, Georgia Center for Racial Understanding.

Starr is currently a funeral director and treasurer for Hutchings Funeral Home, Inc. in Macon, Georgia. Prior to returning to the family business, she was Manager of Trust Investments for Florida Power Corporation and its parent company, Florida Progress Corporation. Her responsibilities at Florida Power included oversight of approximately $1 billion in defined benefit and defined contribution plan assets and other trust funds. Prior to joining Florida Power Corporation, she was Controller for BiRite Company, Inc. and a senior auditor with Price Waterhouse in Tampa. Mrs. Purdue earned a BBA in Accounting from Stetson University and an MBA in Finance from the University of South Florida. She is a certified public accountant, a certified internal auditor and a licensed insurance agent.
