Wednesday, November 4, 1925 Royal and Lucy Hicks Boone welcomed their second daughter, Anna Laura into the world two months ahead of schedule while living in Pittsburgh, PA. Whooping cough threatened the premee’s young life imposing paralysis on her legs. But God stepped in. Paralysis reversed. Her mother declared to her mother, we’ll walk to North Carolina! Resilience became a pronounced stand in Anna’s life.

Reared in Dover, NJ Anna Laura was baptized on July 5, 1936 at Union Baptist Church in Morristown, NJ after a revival encounter with God as she sat on the mourner’s bench. After graduating Dover High School as Valedictorian, she matriculated at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. Active in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Dramatics Club, Poetry Club, she graduated Salutatorian with a Bachelor’s degree in French and a minor in English. She taught at Berry O’Kelly School in Method, NC for a year.

On September 5, 1948 Anna Laura married Sterling Edward Glover, a truck driving aspiring minister and lived in Newark, NJ. From this union Clarence Edward, Maurice Preston and Bernadette Annelle Glover were born. In 1951 they relocated to Scotch Plains, NJ where St. John’s Baptist Church and community became a formative relational hub. Affable, loyal creative and gracious, she was the founding director of the St. John’s Day Care, Dramatics Club, Sunday School, Progressive Ushers, and Scholarship Committee participant. Mrs. Glover was a prayer meeting and Bible study regular. “Oh The Blood” and Do Lord Remember Me” were two of her favorite songs. Gifted with poetry, she could rhyme at any time ever appreciating a play on words.

After 26 years in the PSE & G payroll department and 19 years as an Avon representative with President’s Club distinction, she retired to enjoy gardening, friends and whatever- on her terms. Mrs. Glover’s later years were marked with a playful engagement with others (Anna Banana Plays the Piana in a Cabana). A mega resolve of faith and desire for life. Saturday, April 18, 2026Anna Banana moved from faith to sight. Clarence, Maurice, Bernadette, Gregg and family remain grateful for her and the surrounding circle of Love and care she enjoyed.
