Carlas Benita Hickson, 64, passed away on December 20, 2025 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on January 30, 1961 in Jacksonville, to the late Mascorine and Leroy Similton.
Carlas graduated from William M. Raines High School, class of 1978. She received her B.A. Degree in Education from Bethune Cookman University and taught at Westside High School in Jacksonville with a total of 26 years teaching.
Carlas loved spending time with her family, husband, son, daughter-in-law and friends. She was in love with her brown-eyed babies known as her granddaughters. She also loved and had a love for reading, shopping, fishing and attending and serving in her church. She was a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church, rejoining in 1999.
Family members preceding Carlas in death are her parents, and sister, Roxie Elizabeth Powell.
Carlas is survived by her loving husband, Cyrus Hickson, Sr.; son, Cyrus Hickson, Jr, (Anessia); granddaughters, Cyria Hickson, Skyler Hickson and Ka’cyah Hickson; mother-in-law, Rosa Lee Hickson; sister-in-law, Veocia; nephews, Chase, Chad, and Cyrus “Javon”; nieces, Angela and Lakecia; godchildren, Jamiyah and Shawnkina and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Community Hospice for the compassionate care and thoughtfulness of their loved one.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Church 3:16, 281 East 44th Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32208.
