James Earl Williams, 74, affectionately known as “Batman” and “Flash” was born on February 12, 1952, to Ernest August Williams, Jr. and Etta Mae Williams in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was a proud graduate of Gulfport High School, class of 1970. He was known for his remarkable speed on the football field.
In his early years, James accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. W. T. Guice. He began building the strong foundation of faith and community which followed him throughout his life. After high school, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country both foreign and stateside with honor and dedication. He demonstrated leadership and a strong work ethic.
After his military service, he resided in Los Angeles and San Diego, California. He worked as a Security Officer protecting people and properties. Brother James Williams was a member of Clementine McDuff Elks Lodge #598, I.B.P.O.E. West, San Diego, CA. For many years, he was an established member of his community social club, THE NEW NAME CLUB. He left a host of friends and loved ones in San Diego when he moved back to Gulfport in 2024.
James was known for his vibrant spirit and love of life. He brought joy wherever he went and was truly someone who lived spontaneously and to the fullest. His presence, laughter, and energy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kathy Williams; his son, James Earl Williams, Jr.; and his brothers, Ernest A. Harris, and Freddie L. Williams.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his sister, Helen S. Evans; his brothers, Lon Earl (Marilyn) Williams, Sr. and Raymond (Jan) Henry, Sr.; step daughter, Jacqueline "Susie" McClelland; his granddaughters, Kabriela Williams and Kanesha Williams; his grandson, James Deshawn (Chelsea) Williams; his great-grandchildren, Damarion Carter, Skyy Williams, Kyle Williams, Jace Williams, Rilynn Hood, Cayden Williams, James Williams Jr., and Harmony Williams; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family in the Los Angeles rear, and dear friends.
