Mrs. Nannie M. Barfield, 93, went from labor to reward on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Kitty Askins, Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Born in Duplin County, she is the 2nd child born to the late James Albert Miller and Armittie Miller and wife of the late Walter Barfield Jr.

She grew up in a home where God was the head of the family's household. Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Warsaw was the family church home. She was a life long member and served faithfully.

She received her education in the Duplin County School System and after graduating high school, she furthered her education at Elizabeth City State University. After receiving her bachelors degree in Education from Elizabeth City, she continued her education at North Carolina Central University in Durham and received a degree in Speech Pathology. Her years in education and speech pathology were rendered in the Duplin County School System. She retired for a year and then joined her husband and began working in funeral service. She became a licensed funeral director in December 1985.

In addition to her parents and husband, she has been reunited with her daughter, Carnice Barfield-Pettit; siblings, Robert Miller, Roy Lee Miller, Annie L. Kornegay, Preston Miller and Shirley M. Mills.

Cherished memories will linger in the hearts of her daughter, McKale Barfield-Best; grandchildren, Tia Best, Rikki Best, Ty (Christina) Best and RaShonte Pettit, great grandchildren, Kynnedi , Journey, Jordan Kate, Jason and Carson; a grandson and great granddaughter that she loved as her own, Arthur Cousins and Jy'Asha Cousins;goddaughter, Sherrita Kornegay; sisters-in-law, Mildred Miller, Lela Mae (Joe) King, Evelyn Barfield and Everlena Barfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Potted plants and small arrangements are welcomed or monetary donations in her memory can be made payable to her beloved Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, c/o Garris Funeral Home, PO Box 932 Mt. Olive, NC 28365.
